Zugzwang position

February 2, 2010 No comments

Zugzwang position (German Zug, play, and Zwang, compulsion, obligation) is when you make any move would seriously undermine you in the game.

A good example is this:

Posición Zugzwang

In this case who would touch touch is impaired.

White:

  • If you do Kd6 tables, and any movement will eat the pawn

Black:

  • You can only do with what white Kd7 Kc7 move with what the next move or queen if promoted, thereby winning the game.
