The best chess move.

November 5, 2009 A Comment

An interesting statistical study on chess, taking data from a database acceptable (4200000 items) that are not exclusively of Grand Masters, can obtain data representative of the chess game:

The mean moves of a game is played average 57.63 (a white or black). What in normal moves moves moves to 28.8. It's less than I expected (I expected 35 or so).

White wins the highest percentage of games in September, while Black wins reaches its maximum in April (!).

The opening play more times, according to the codes Informator is the C22 (Alapin Variation of the Sicilian defense).

The source shows an interesting list of openings in which there are more victories white and black. This is one possible explanation: there are openings "of white" (as the variant of change of the Spanish opening, the Keres attack, or the King's Gambit) in which the white player usually study your favorite poker while the black often improvise or have a single way to respond. There are also openings in black (they are the most, as the Budapest Gambit, variant Marshall Svesnikov or attack). When an opponent knows better opening and surprises his rival, often get good results.

There are also openings that are simply bad for one of the two groups (C00, irregular variations of the French defense (the game is irregular white)) and have to deliver bad results.

The most interesting of all statistics is, in my opinion, get the nuts. What is the play that, should make a side, the highest percentage of games won?

At the end of logic, combine both the power to make a pawn into a queen (to reach the last row) with the fact that this influx can be done by a catch (Two birds with one stone!). And given the choice site, the best of all is to capture the white pawn on f7 g8 one piece.

Thus, the move that most likely leads to the victory of all is f7xg8 = D! With her White has a chance of winning much higher than black (6.4 to 1).

Curiously (and make a difference), a game in which White made the nuts and even asynchronous, lost: Minasian-Tiviakov, Frunze 1989 (the symbols for the pieces are in English).

Symmetrically, the best move for Black is also a coronation. In this case of a pawn on a2 b1 captured in a while crowning piece. a2xb1 = D!.
