Jesus died Diez del Corral
The Aragonese chess International Grandmaster, Jesus Diez del Corral, died Feb. 19 in Madrid at age 77.
Jesus Rivas Diez del Corral was born in Zaragoza on April 6, 1933, a historic day for chess Aragon, and that in June of that year two players of our tierrra disputed the end of the Championships. Single of Spain, King James Ruse and Casas.
Since very little, and started in chess competitions. Jesus was the second of the 28 GMs. Spanish who have achieved the highest title awarded by FIDE, behind the legendary Arturo Pomar.
Diez del Corral got to be champion of Spain in two editions, 1955 (Alcoy) and 1965 (Seville), shortly before I got the title of International Grandmaster in 1967, then seven years later was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1974.
Diez del Corral participated in 7 Olympics representing Spain between 1960 and 1982. He played a total of 97 games getting 56.5 points (58.2%).
His performances were outstanding in 1969, being second in the Masters Tournament in Amsterdam, and sixth in the Tournament of Palma de Mallorca. In 1973 he placed third in the Tournament of Montilla. He also participated in nine editions Tournament Team "Clare Benedict" representing Spain, between 1960 and 1972. In total he played 40 games, getting 23.5 points (58.8%).
He stopped playing chess competitions in 1986 to devote himself to his profession of notary, when counted with an ELO of 2415, although the highest ELO his career was 2515 points.
It was a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines Chess, highlighting their journal articles and OchoxOcho Chess directed by Roman Toran, besides his contributions to the newspaper ABC.
GM. Aragon had a solid strategic thinking with a great analytical skills and excellent technical expertise, especially in the finals. Besides creativity and competitive spirit of the champion showed several of his great works on the board or its artistic compositions to which he devoted considerable time.
In 2001 he was awarded the Chess Federation of Madrid a pawn chess gold for his career.
