Interview with Cori siblings
The brothers world junior champions U-16 and U-14:
Deysi and Jorge Cori
For Mr. Joseph Orlando Ruiz Jasbon
For all Americans and especially for Latinos, Deysi and Jorge Cori are the pride of our mixed blood and with them the name of the land of chess Capablanca continent has begun to attract the interest of all chess players and coaches in the world . Last year, in Singapore, were proclaimed world champions U-13 and U-15 and, together with Jorian Acosta, Columbia sub-7, showed the world that chess Latino is a new stage. Three championships in a tournament, that's something that allows Latino chess thinking in better times, despite the fact that many leaders in this area, once they are "up", they usually forget the chess players and their parents who are ultimately the main element in a plan to boost generation of new super athletes. Deysi Cori has become the new U-16 world champion in the women's section of the World Youth Championship 2009 in Turkey. And his brother George has achieved the same feat in all sub-14. Have triumphed over youth superstars European, Chinese and Indians, which shows you all the other leaders and Latino parents, we need to improve that stretch between the Russians and super players may be shortened even more. However, with much discipline and dedication.
The interview was conducted in the absence of the last round of the World Youth Championship, but when they were practically confirmed victories. I started the interview with Jorge Cori, as his sister was preparing for departure in the afternoon, George and the Peruvian delegation came to play tennis at Hotel Daima.
George, tell me about your first chess teachers.
The first chess teacher I remember was called Ricardo Mejia. I trained when I was 8 or 9 years. The school where I studied, the Saco Oliveros, is very strong in chess and has several teachers. Then I worked with Filemon Cruz, Jorge Pacheco and the Federation last year I contacted the GM Guiorgio Castaneda, who is of Russian-Peruvian family, but was raised in the former USSR.
Who is your current coach?
At present I have no coach. I train alone with Fritz and ChessBase 11 and some other secrets that can not be counted.
Jorge, Jorge father and Deysi
Did your father ever trained you?
He taught me to play, but now I am queen and rook and won him blindly ... (much laughter from all present.)
What chess book has impacted you most?
"Elite Training" Yusupov.
What sports do you practice?
Tennis and ping pong. (Author's note: although the guys I've seen him play basketball and Micro)
What is your favorite football team?
I like football and I know of no team that I like.
Have you read a book of Vargas Llosa?
When I was little, my father made me read some of the "City of the Dogs".
When you were in Singapore, I do not probabas shrimp, being that the Peruvians are famous the world over for its seafood. What do you like the sea?
I do not like fish, but sometimes I like ceviche. (Note: the Peruvian ceviche is aguadito with parsley and cilantro I agree to the region, is rather spicy, while Colombia is more creamy and comes with pink sauce.)
What career other than chess, would you like?
Systems Engineering.
George and Deysi before lunch
How do you do with the discipline of your father?
Sometimes we fight, but I the win. With my mom is quite the opposite, because it allows me a lot.
Deysi Cori was born on July 2, 1993 in Lima, Peru, Villa El Salvador district. Her family made up his brother George, sister 2 years Shantal who affectionately called Kio, his father George and his mother Katy Sanchez.
Have a special friend or confidant?
No, but I have many friends online.
Did not find your wrists?
No longer, but when I was younger, yes I liked. But George I broke them and took away his head to see who had the inside!
With so much competition out, do not miss food from home?
Yes, I miss the food from my mom and my sister.
What do you like to prepare you?
Teco fried rice and chicken. (The fried rice is a kind of Chinese rice, to Peru, including vegetables, meats and many condiments).
What does your mom today?
My mom is working as assistant teachers in the Saco Oliveros school, as my father is traveling with us all the tournaments.
The delegate of Peru, MF Nina with the Peruvian delegation
Who sponsors you in tournaments?
The Peruvian company Cementos Lima sponsoring us all tournaments of the year, travel and costs for the stay.
Well, a cement manufacturer! What kind of propaganda you do to improve the consumption of cement in Lima?
We make no propaganda, neither the company nor does it. Just ask us when we ask, Cementos Lima say that we sponsor.
What you need to be ME? (It is now WMI)
So I only need a standard, since 2400 with this tournament, and got over it. For WGM and I have 7 rules (4 more) and the 2300's overcame a while, but even I was not my Federation or FIDE has handled did not register.
What are you doing with school? How do you manage to study high school while competing?
For two years in Saco Oliveros school are very supportive of chess, gave me the opportunity, along with my brother, not to take classes with the whole group, but we have some tutorials and workshops to complete the notes.
Deysi with MF George and Joshua Ruiz (sub-12), all three of Colombia
What are the subjects that you like?
Geography and World History and I would like to study languages (currently not taking English classes in group workshops)
I see you're playing tennis lately. How are you doing with your brother?
Currently trying to play an hour a day, but George always wins.
How many hours a day train chess?
In tournaments, about 2 hours, but when I have tournaments, 4 to 5 hours, as the school's tutoring me consuming 5 to 6 hours daily.
Does the Peruvian government supports you?
Hardly, but being World Champion U-15 gave me $ 5000. (In Colombia are $ 25,000 and a pension from age 58 to $ 450 depending on the sport and sometimes even give away their house.)
Deysi and Jorge Cori is the new image of chess Latino shows all chess players, you can catch up and overtake the Europeans and Asians, but this requires much discipline and work. And that's what Jorge father taught them to their children.
In Singapore the world who could not attend the father of Cori brothers, Jorge, and Jorge Deysi were alone with the coach of the Peruvian Federation, GM Guiorgio Castaneda. There could be a relatively long time with them daily and Cori did not integrate with other players, until you have worked 50 chess problems and this in full tournament. In this Deysi is more disciplined Jorge as Jorge and my son Joshua always flew to the malls and typical districts of Singapore. (I have always believed that life is more than just chess.)
There are four key things that separates the great players in the world of others, which are:
1.) Discipline. Deysi never saw, nor Jorge raised after 23:00 hours, something that the vast majority of players and their coaches care very little.
2.) Computerize (that is, spend the computer) the game ends immediately after the analysis.
3.) Daily work in solving chess problems of various kinds and have been contrasted with the coach of another "chess freak" sub-13, MI Illia Nyzhnyk, Ukraine (which only lacks a GM norm to be the youngest grandmaster in the world since 2503 while the rating points reached).
4.) The fourth and final difference of great players with others, is an hour of daily physical sport. Illia plays table tennis and tennis Cori. This allows the best shape to endure with greater ease possible fight in a tournament lasts so long and strong as World Youth Day.
