Interview in "the country" Magnus Carlsen:
Question. What IQ do you have?
Response. No idea. I do not know. It can mean a nasty surprise.
Q. How do you say that? At 19, leads the global rankings of chess. It must be incredibly intelligent.
A. Just that would be awful. Of course it is important that a chess player knows concentrate well, but can also be a burden to be too clever. I am convinced that the Englishman John Nunn was never world champion because he was too smart to be.
Q. It takes a year collaborating with Gary Kasparov, perhaps the greatest player of all time. How is this cooperation? ¿Kasparov is the master, you the student?
A. No. In regard to the strengths of our game we are not far away. There are many things that he's better than me. And vice versa. Kasparov can calculate more variants, but my intuition is better. I know immediately how to assess a situation and what plan is required. In that I am better than him.
